CHINA - International Adoption

Dick and I are Snow Birds. We spend six months of the year in Florida and six in New England – a couple of lucky seniors who don’t have to shovel snow.

When our daughter Paula and her husband Craig said that they were going to adopt a little girl from China, we were anxious for them. Oh, we knew they would be the best parents possible and would take good care of the little girl. But they were pretty old to start a family (in their fifties) and we were pretty old to be “Meme” and" Grampy,” again!

When we are in Florida, we have a lovely board walk that runs along the ocean and ends with a very nice playground. Each day, we take our walk and finish it by standing and watching the parents and grandparents play with their darling little children.

Paula and Craig have returned from China with the most adorable little 17-month-old child. We love her and she is making our lives so full. We wait each day for the time we spend with her. I may have a backache some days, but it is worth everything to have Rachel give me a smile and throw me a kiss.

Dick and I will be returning to Florida for the winter months and we know it will be so hard to leave our new little granddaughter Rachel. However, when Paula, Craig and Rachel come to visit us in Florida, Dick and I will no longer be spectators at the playground. Instead, we will be able to join in the fun with other parents, grandparents and their children. God has been so good to us.

We thank Lutheran Social Services for making a dream come true for Paula and Craig, as well as the whole family.
