Waiting Parents
Susan & Alex .. waiting in Connecticut
Hello,
Our names are Susan and Alex. Thank you for taking the time to read our letter. We can only imagine how difficult this decision must be for you. It takes a lot of love, courage and compassion to put your baby’s needs first through adoption. We hope that once you look through our profile, you’ll get to know us better and appreciate the type of parents we would be for your child.
Alex and I have known each other for more than 21 years. It’s hard to believe that it has been that long because it seems like only yesterday we met as freshmen at college outside of New York City. It was love at first sight for us. Throughout our four years in college our relationship only continued to grow stronger and more meaningful. Not only did we spend those years growing as individuals, we also grew as a couple.
Alex graduated with a degree in physics and I with a degree in accounting. From there, Alex went on to earn his Master’s degree at a university in New York; while I entered the workplace as an accountant in a small investment company.
After being engaged for two years, we had a beautiful wedding on December 14, 1991. We chose to get married in the month of December because the holidays have always had a special meaning to us; and they still do. The holidays are a big deal around our house. We really enjoy and are enthusiastic about decorating the inside and outside of our home. It is very important to us to combine traditions from both sides of our families. We spent our honeymoon in California where we drove from San Francisco down to Los Angeles. It is a trip that we will never forget.
Less than a year after we were married, we adopted a red tabby kitten, Marmie. He is now 14 ½ years old and has brought joy into our lives everyday. He is a big part of almost everything we do; holiday dinners, barbecues with family and friends, vacations. Some people joke and say he is “our first born”.
After being married for several years, Alex began his doctoral studies at a university in New Jersey. This was a monumental step in Alex’s life. It was through his hard work and dedication that he was able to make this happen.
Upon completion of Alex’s studies, we decided we would start our family. As life goes many times, things did not go as planned. After some unsuccessful fertility treatments, we came to realize that God had other plans for us. We always knew that we wanted a family of our own and we now know that adoption will help us to achieve this. We believe that parenting a child will give us the greatest joy of our lives.
Our marriage is very important to us. It is based on love, honesty, friendship and respect. That is why we decided to renew our marriage vows for our 15th anniversary. We realize the great rewards that come from having a solid and fulfilling relationship.
We look forward to sharing our lives with a child. We feel we have many things to offer; a good home, security, a supportive and caring extended family, a solid education and above all, lots of love. I will be a stay-at-home mom, just the way both of our mothers were. This is a very exciting time for us. Our hearts and our home are open and ready to share this with a child.
Again, we just want to thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We want you to know that if you choose us, your child will always be loved and treasured as the true gift he or she is to us.
Sincerely,
Susan & Alex
