Waiting Parents

waiting to adopt

Derek & Robyn... waiting in Massachusetts

Hi,

Together, we are preparing this letter for you so that you may get to know us and learn what we have been waiting for and wanting to share for a lifetime. We respect and admire your decision to allow the gift of life to be entrusted through adoption to a waiting home. This choice enables couples like us to have a child to nurture, protect and love.

We are a childless couple sincere in our wish to adopt an infant. We have been married for five years. During that time we have experienced two miscarriages and seven rounds of in vitro fertilization with no success in conception. The biggest void we feel in our lives is that of a child. We live for the day we become parents. Our infertility issues have brought us closer as a couple given the resulting heart-to-heart talks and attentive support of each other. We are a couple who value family life that is enriched through meaningful and long lasting relationships. Robyn’s mother was adopted as an infant. We know of the adoption process and how beautifully it has worked out for several others. Our great wish is to share our life and what we have to offer with an infant we are privileged to adopt.

We are homeowners, living in a suburban, three bedroom cape style house with a large yard on a quiet cul-de-sac. Our home is in easy walking distance of an elementary school. Our town’s school system is highly regarded with a large percentage of high school graduates continuing on to college. We live within easy driving distance of many area colleges. Derek is a manager with a grocery chain. Robyn is a manager of a department within an educational testing firm. Each of us commutes less than half an hour to and from our work places. We and our families belong to local churches and worship regularly throughout the year. We are Christians and intend to provide Christian education for the little one that joins our family.

We both come from large extended families and feel lucky to live close to both sets of parents (grandparents.) Robyn has two married brothers, ten and seven years older. They each have two sons ranging in age from seven years to seventeen years. Derek is the younger brother of his married sister who is the mother of a son, age seven and a daughter, age four. We are family oriented and treasure the time we can spend together. Almost every month of the year we have special family celebrations to attend — birthdays, baptisms, weddings, anniversaries, graduations and special school or sport events. We participate in community events and volunteer in charity fund raisings. In the summer we get to the beach as much as we can. Skiing is our favorite winter sport.

We would characterize ourselves as responsible, optimistic, stable, energetic, caring, gentle, resourceful, and thoughtful. Those who know us tell us we will be great parents.

Our promise to you is to love always, provide security and offer educational opportunities to the child entrusted to us. TLC, tender loving care, will be there day and night. We will delight in reading Mother Goose Rhymes, Dr. Suess books, singing “the itsy bitsy spider” and, as time goes on, other age-appropriate books and songs.

While we have been blessed in many ways, we continue to search for completion of our dream to be devoted parents. Our great wish is to share our life and what we have to offer with an infant we are privileged to adopt.

We want to thank you for reading our profile and would love a chance to meet you to talk further. Although this is a hard decision to make we know you will make the right choice for you and your baby.

Sincerely,

Robyn and Derek
